When Jay was in grade school in the Philippines, his brother was in a youth Christian band. They composed a song entitled “Cross Over”. There was a particular line in the song that inspired him. The line spoke on, crossing over from darkness to light. The term “Cross Over” can also mean crossing over cultures such as “to the ends of the earth”.
Fast forward, to January 2015, Jay was on his yearly prayer and fasting walk around downtown LA, and Jay saw a huge billboard sign that was lit up and it said, “JESUS SAVES”. Those two powerful words surged a feeling of compassion for the lost in LA and sparked the idea to plant a church bearing the name “Cross Over” in Los Angeles, California.
The first church plant attempt was in 2016 when Jay started with an on-fire and vibrant young army for Jesus: AJ, Angelo, Daniel, and Joshua. They prepared and met for discipleship, leadership training, and growing deeper in their relationship with Christ. But, there is no green light to start at that time for them to start the church. God instructed Jay, to find a wife, and a helpmate before launching the church.
When the pandemic happened when churches were closing, the CrossOver.LA was born. It started as an online Bible study via Zoom. It became a beacon of hope to those people who were in lockdown and couldn’t go out. After two years of doing church online, God opened the door and now they have monthly physical service in Marina del Rey. Come visit us sometime soon!
CrossOver.LA continues to grow. They now have 4 church host families and a global influential footprint through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, our BIGO host family, and our host family in the Philippines- CrossOver.Manila. We are excited about what God has ahead for this Ministry, at CrossOver.LA we look forward to meeting you at one of our host families and serving God together Championing Jesus among the influencers and beyond!
As a Parent Affiliate Church (PAC) of the Covina Church of the Nazarene, we affirm their statement of belief.
God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, called by various terms including "entire sanctification" and "baptism with the Holy Spirit"-cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as Christlikeness
Because we are called by Scripture and drawn by grace to worship God and to love Him with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, we commit ourselves fully and completely to God, believing that we can be "sanctified wholly," as a second crisis experience. We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts, cleanses, fills, and empowers us as the grace of God transforms us day by day into a people of love, spiritual discipline, ethical and moral purity, compassion, and justice. It is the work of the Holy Spirit that restores us in the image of God and produces in us the character of Christ.
We believe in God the Father, the Creator, who calls into being what does not exist. We once were not, but God called us into being, made us for himself, and fashioned us in His own image. We have been commissioned to bear the image of God: "I am the LORD . . . your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy" (Leviticus 11:44).
As the scriptures said in Colossians 2:6 ESV Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. We value wholehearted obedience and submission to Christ, His will, and His Word in faith as this is foundational in our spiritual walk.
We value family. This is the base and validation of our calling. No marriage and children will be sacrificed in the name of success. As a believer in the congregational spiritual family of God, we choose to love, respect, and be united in Christ.
Psalm 127: 1, 3
1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Ephesians 4:3
eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
We value birthing leaders in their God-given chosen field. Developing future leaders serving the church and their community. As a priority, we deliberately create opportunities for them to practice their gifts, through instruction, internship, and impartation. So they may be prepared to do the works of ministry and build the body of Christ.
2 Timothy 2:2 ESV 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also
Ephesians 4: 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
God’s heart is to reach the lost and to build the church of God. So we value the lost souls. We don’t seek church transferees but birthing these lost souls in the kingdom.
John 3:16 ESV 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Luke 19:10 ESV 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
We value discipleship. Spiritual growth is synonymous with discipleship, being one, and discipling one. This is how we minister to people, not through events or programs, or projects.
Matthew 28:19,20 ESV
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
